The new English version of the Anne and Zef ebook is now available on website. Anne and Zef is an international co-production for young audiences between the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Amsterdam-based Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a part of Nurture the Future within the Music Up Close Network project, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra performed the multi-media opera Anne & Zef in the spring of 2017.
Inspired by the story of Anna Frank, the opera deals with dramatically current themes through the story told by the main characters themselves: two fifteen-year-olds torn from their lives by an adult world blinded by ideological fury and personal vendetta. Having met their earthly destiny, Anna and Zef find themselves in a suspended afterlife; the pain and physical suffering are clear but distant memories, their new condition yet to be understood and deciphered. By telling and sharing their mutual earthly experiences, the two youths regain awareness of themselves and reclaim their right to fall in love and to dream of a better future – whatever the time and space that awaits them may be.
